Synopsis

B757 FLT CREW HAS SMOKE AND FUMES. THEY COMPLETE THE APPROPRIATE CHKLISTS AND DIVERT TO THE MOST SUITABLE ARPT.

Narrative

WE RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE PURSER STATING SMOKE IN THE CABIN ORIGINATING NEAR SEATS XXXX SMELLING LIKE ELECTRICAL. THE CAPT MADE A DECISION THAT WE SHOULD LAND AT THE NEAREST SUITABLE ARPT; WHEREBY WE THEN PROCEEDED WITH THE SMOKE; FUMES; ODOR QRC IMMEDIATE ACTION ITEMS. THE CAPT THEN MADE THE INITIAL COMMENT OF NEEDING TO LAND TO ATC. I THEN TOOK OVER THE RADIOS IN ADDITION TO FLYING AND COORD THE NEAREST SUITABLE AS RNO AND PROCEEDED IN THE DIRECTION OF RENO AND BEGAN AN IMMEDIATE DSCNT TO FL280 AS GIVEN BY ATC. THE CAPT SIMULTANEOUSLY CONTINUED COM WITH THE CABIN; BEGAN COM WITH DISPATCH; PROCEEDED WITH REF ITEMS. WX WAS OBTAINED AND A LNDG TO THE N (RWY 34L) WAS ARRANGED. I FLEW AS FAST AS POSSIBLE FOCUSING ON AN UPCOMING VISUAL APCH AS THE CAPT BRIEFED THE DETAILS OF THE APCH; LNDG; AND ROLLOUT; INCLUDING AN OVERWT LNDG. THE LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE L REVERSER NOT UNLOCKING -- A SEPARATE ISOLATED PROB FROM THE SMOKE. AS A SIDE NOTE; ARRIVING RNO IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT THE L ENG WAS 5 QUARTS LOWER THAN IN SFO (23 QUARTS TO 18 QUARTS; WITH THE R ENG STILL 23 QUARTS) WITH AN OIL MESS UNDER THE ENG.
