Synopsis

AN MD80 HAD A L #2 DOOR SLIDE PACK THAT WOULD NOT CONNECT PROPERLY TO THE GIRT BAR. REPAIRED BY CONTRACT TECHNICIANS. SLIDE NOT INSPECTED AFTER REPAIR.

Narrative

FLT ATTENDANT NOTIFIED ME AT PUSHBACK THAT THE L-2 SLIDE PACK WAS NOT CONNECTED PROPERLY TO THE GIRT BAR. I CALLED OPS TO HAVE THE JETWAY PULLED BACK UP AND THAT WE HAD A MAINT PROB. THE OPS AGENT SAID SHE WOULD CALL MAINT BACK OUT. (THEY HAD JUST LEFT THE ACFT AFTER FIXING A PREVIOUS WRITE-UP FROM THE INBOUND CREW). I DID NOT CALL MAINT CTL PERSONALLY; AS THE OPS AGENT HAD ALREADY DONE IT. CONTACT WITH MAINT CTL/DISPATCH IS DIFFICULT FROM THE JET AT ZZZ. IT REQUIRES A PATCH THROUGH WHICH I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO DO SUCCESSFULLY. THE MECHS FIXED THE SLIDE PACK; SIGNED OFF THE MAINT LOG; AND TOLD ME THEY HAD COORD WITH MAINT CTL. WE FLEW TO ZZZ1. THE ONCOMING CAPT A DAY LATER INFORMED ME THAT AN INSPECTION WAS REQUIRED ON THE SIGN OFF FOR THE SLIDE PACK. I HAD NO WAY OF KNOWING THAT AN INSPECTION WAS REQUIRED. THE ONLY POSSIBLE ERROR THAT I COULD HAVE MADE WAS NOT CALLING MAINT CTL MYSELF. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT IF I HAD ALSO CALLED MAINT CTL PERSONALLY TO INITIATE MAINT RESPONSE; THAT THE RESULT WOULD HAVE BEEN ANY DIFFERENT. A USABLE VOICE COM LINK TO MAINT AND DISPATCH FROM THE COCKPIT AT ZZZ WOULD BE A BIG IMPROVEMENT. I DON'T; HOWEVER; THINK IT WOULD HAVE CHANGED THE OUTCOME IN THIS SITUATION. THIS WAS A MAINT COORD ERROR.
