AN A320 HAD A DEFERRAL ON THE #1 ENG MISSING INBOARD STRAKE. AT TRIP TERMINATION THE FO RPTED #1 ENG HAD AN OUTBOARD STRAKE INSTALLED. OUTBOARD STRAKE INSTALLED IN ERROR AND NOT PERMITTED.

Narrative

ACFT IS ON CDL 54-1 FOR MISSING STRAKE ON #1 ENG. ON THE 320 THE STRAKE IS ON THE INBOARD SIDE OF THE ENG. THE BLUE STICKER; FOR THE CDL WAS ON THE LOGBOOK; AND THE DISPATCH RELEASE HAD THE CDL ON IT. WE OPERATED THE ACFT ON 2 LEGS IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE CDL. WHEN WE WERE PUTTING THE ACFT TO BED; THE FO; WHO HAD DONE THE PREVIOUS 2 WALKAROUNDS; TOLD ME THAT INDEED THE ACFT WAS MISSING THE INBOARD STRAKE ON THE #1 ENG; BUT THAT IT HAD AN OUTBOARD STRAKE. THE 320 SHOULD NOT HAVE AN OUTBOARD STRAKE. THIS STRUCK ME AS STRANGE; BUT IT WASN'T UNTIL WE WERE ON HOTEL VAN GOING TO THE HOTEL THAT I REALIZED IT WAS WRONG AND POTENTIALLY UNSAFE. I THEN CALL THE AIRBUS DESK TO ASK THEM WHAT IS UP. I AM TOLD THAT THE STRAKE WAS INSTALLED THAT MORNING AND THAT THE CDL HAD BEEN REMOVED. I TOLD THEM THAT THE STRAKE WAS ON THE OUTBOARD PORTION OF THE ENG AND THAT THE CDL HAD NOT BEEN REMOVED. THE AIRBUS DESK SAID THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF IT BEFORE THE FLT WENT OUT THE NEXT MORNING. BECAUSE I HAD NOT MADE A LOGBOOK WRITE-UP; THE NEXT MORNING I CALLED THE AIRBUS DESK TO MAKE SURE THE STRAKE HAD BEEN REMOVED; AND THE ACFT PLACED BACK ON THE CDL BEFORE ANOTHER CREW HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO FLY THE ACFT. THE A320 WAS NOT DESIGNED TO FLY WITH A STRAKE ON THE OUTBOARD PORTION ON THE ENG. MAINT FAILED TO INSTALL THE STRAKE CORRECTLY; AND LUCKILY; FAILED TO CORRECTLY REMOVE THE CDL. WE FAILED TO NOTICE THIS ON 2 WALKAROUNDS. I FAILED TO MAKE A LOGBOOK ENTRY.
