800XP HAWKER FLT CREW HAS LEFT MAIN TIRES FAIL. FLT CREW ABORTS TKOF AND REMAINS ON THE RWY.
TAXI CHKS ALL NORMAL; POSITIONED ON RWY 10. I WAS PLT AT THE CTLS IN LEFT SEAT. ON TKOF ROLL; ALL SYSTEMS AND ENGS CHKED NORMAL. AT 80 KT CALLOUT; I TRANSFERRED MY CTL FROM TILLER TO YOKE (SOP). WHILE ACCELERATING; APPROX 2 SECONDS LATER AND AT APPROX 100-110 KTS; WE HEARD A LOUD 'THUMP' AND FELT MASSIVE VIBRATION AND NOISE; WITH A PULL AND SOME SETTLING ON THE LEFT SIDE. I CALLED ABORT AND PULLED BACK THE THROTTLES; USED LIGHT BRAKING; DEPLOYED THRUST REVERSERS WITH FULL REVERSE THRUST AND MAINTAINED CTRLINE WITH RIGHT RUDDER INPUT. AS WE SLOWED; THE PNF TOOK THE YOKE AND I RETURNED TO THE TILLER FOR DIRECTIONAL CTL. WE BROUGHT THE ACFT TO A STOP APPROX 2000 FT FROM THE END OF THE RWY AND ON CTRLINE. WE PERFORMED AN IMMEDIATE SHUTDOWN AND NOTIFIED TWR OF OUR ABORT AND SHUTDOWN. WE SAW AND FELT NO FOD ON THE RWY ON TKOF ROLL. THE WX WAS VMC; SLIGHT HEADWIND; 30 DEGS. WE HAD 9800 LBS OF FUEL ONBOARD; V1 WAS 130 KTS. ON POSTFLT WE FOUND BOTH LEFT MAIN GEAR TIRES WERE SHREDDED AND WRAPPED AROUND THE AXLES AND STRUT. BOTH BARE METAL WHEELS WERE ON PAVEMENT WITH ALL BRAKE LINES SEVERED WITH FLUID POOLING UNDER THE WHEEL WELL. WE HAD SMOKE BUT NO FIRE. I FEEL OUR SOP'S; SIM AND IN-ACFT TRAINING; CREW COORDINATION AND CALM PROFESSIONALISM SAVED THIS HAWKER AND CREW FROM INJURY.SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 691929: THE ABORT WAS INITIATED PRIOR TO V1 BUT AFTER THE 80 KT CALLOUT AND CTL TRANSITION.CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT AFTER THE FLT CREW RECOGNIZED THE POSSIBLE MAIN GEAR TIRE FAILURE; THEY IMMEDIATELY ABORTED THE TKOF. THE FLT CREW DISCUSSED THE USE OF THE LEFT BRAKE AND FOUND IT WAS INOP. THE ACFT WAS BROUGHT TO A STOP WITH THE THRUST REVERSERS AND THE RIGHT BRAKE. EVENTUALLY ALL BRAKES AND NOSEWHEEL STEERING WERE LOST; HOWEVER THE ACFT SLOWED SUFFICIENTLY AND WAS STOPPED EVENTUALLY BY THRUST REVERSERS ALONE. RPTR STATED THAT THE POST FLT REVEALED THAT THE INBOARD TIRE MAY HAVE FAILED WHICH CAUSED THE FAILURE OF THE OUTBOARD TIRE. DEBRIS WAS SEEN ALONG THE PATH OF THE ACFT FROM THE POINT OF FAILURE. THE FLEX LINES THAT SUPPLY THE MAIN GEAR BRAKES WERE SEVERED AND HYD FLUID WAS PUDDLING BENEATH THE MAIN GEAR STRUT. FLT CREW FELT THEY WERE FORTUNATE TO HAVE RECOGNIZED THE PROBLEM EARLY IN THE TKOF SEQUENCE AS THE DIRECTIONAL CTL BECAME MORE DIFFICULT TOWARD THE END OF THE ACFT ROLL. RPTR STATED THAT DURING PREFLT WALKAROUND; THE TIRES AND LNDG GEAR WERE NORMAL; WITH NO UNUSUAL WEAR NOTED. ADDITIONALLY; RPTR NOTED THAT POSTFLT REVEALED DAMAGE TO THE FLAPS AND UNDERSIDE OF THE WING FROM DEBRIS.
