GULFSTREAM V FLT CREW HAS A TRACK HDG DEV DURING ARR TO EDDF.
WE WERE FILED FOR THE OSMAX 1W ARR TO FRANKFURT; GERMANY (EDDF); WHICH WAS PROGRAMMED INTO THE FMS. ATIS INDICATED LNDGS TO THE E; RATHER THAN THE ANTICIPATED W. THIS MEANT A CHANGE OF ARRS; AS THE OSMAX 1W WAS FOR LNDG TO THE W. I ANTICIPATED THE OSMAX 2E ARR AND LOADED THIS INTO THE FMS; ALONG WITH THE ANTICIPATED 7L RWY. IN OUR FMS; THERE ARE; IF AVAILABLE; TRANSITIONS TO CHOOSE FROM AS OPTIONS FOR GIVEN APCHS. NONE OF THESE TRANSITIONS SEEMED TO CONTINUE FROM THE END OF THE OSMAX 2E ARR; SO I DIDN'T SELECT ANY OF THEM. AT SOME POINT; APCH CLRED US TO THE FIRST 2 OR 3 POINTS ON THE OSMAX 2E ARR. APCH THEN VECTORED US OFF THE ARR FOR TFC AND FINALLY CLRED US ON AN INTERCEPT HDG ALONG THE OSMAX 2E ARR BEFORE CLRING US FOR THE 'OSMAX 7 TRANSITION;' WHICH I REPEATED. THE OSMAX 2E ARR IS FOR RWY 7L/7R; SO I THOUGHT THE CTLR WAS MERELY USING DIFFERENT WORDS FOR THE SAME ARR WE WERE ON. (THERE IS NO OSMAX 7 ARR.) AFTER CONTINUING ON THE OSMAX 2E ARR; APCH CALLED US TO CONFIRM WE WERE ON THE 'OSMAX 7 TRANSITION.' I TOLD HIM WE WERE ON THE 'OSMAX 2E.' HE FIRMLY NOTIFIED US THAT THE OSMAX 2E WAS A STAR; NOT A TRANSITION AND GAVE US A VECTOR. I LOCATED THE OSMAX 7 TRANSITION; LOADED IT INTO THE FMS; AND RPTED TO APCH THAT WE WERE READY TO NAV VIA THE OSMAX 7 TRANSITION. APCH THEN CLRED US FOR THE TRANSITION. THE REMAINDER OF THE FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL.
