CL600 FLT CREW HAS A RWY INCURSION AT CLE.
WE ARE CLRED TO RWY 24C. THE TAXI RTE REQUIRES US TO TAXI ONTO RWY 28 AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 24L. ARRS TO CLE ARE LNDG RWY 24L AND DEPARTING RWY 24C. I DO NOT NOTICE THE 'HOT SPOT' CIRCLE AT THE JUNCTURE OF RWY 24L AND RWY 28 NOR DO I STUDY THE EXPLODED DIAGRAM OF THOSE CONVERGING RWYS. I DID NOT SEE THE IMPENDING DANGER. AS WE ENTER RWY 28 WE VERIFY CLR AND PROCEED TO TXWY Z WHICH FORMS A JUNCTURE WITH RWY 24L. UPON ENTERING RWY 28 WE ARE BOTH 'HEADS UP' AND SCANNING FOR POTENTIAL HAZARDS COMPLETELY UNAWARE THAT THE HOLD SHORT MARKINGS FOR RWY 24L ARE ACTUALLY ON RWY 28. HOLD SHORT LINES PAINTED ON A RWY ARE NOT WHERE ONE WOULD EXPECT TO HOLD SHORT. THE PHYSICAL DIMENSIONS OF TXWY Z DO NOT PROVIDE ENOUGH ROOM TO BE CLR OF RWY 28 AND RWY 24L AT THE SAME TIME. WE PROCEEDED ONTO THE SMALL PIECE OF CONCRETE WHICH IS FORMED BY THE APEX OF RWY 24L/28 AND REALIZED THAT WE ARE NOW PROTRUDING INTO THE AREA ADJACENT TO RWY 24L. WITH TFC APCHING TO LAND WE ADVANCE TO AN AREA AHEAD AND CLR OF RWY 24L. WE HAD CROSSED A RWY WITHOUT A CLRNC. IN RETROSPECT: 1) MORE CAREFUL REVIEW OF TAXI RTE WITH EMPHASIS ON 'HOT SPOTS.' 2) DO NOT RUSH TO MAKE ON-TIME DEPS. 3) TAXI AT A SLOWER PACE AND BE HEADS UP. THAT PARTICULAR AREA SURROUNDING THOSE RWYS AT CLE IS VERY POORLY DESIGNED. IN ADDITION; I DO NOT REMEMBER SEEING THE CLASSIC RED 'APCH RWY 24L' HOLD SHORT SIGNS ABEAM THE HOLD SHORT LINES ON THE PAVEMENT ON RWY 28. CONSIDER THIS A LESSON LEARNED THE HARD WAY.
