Synopsis

AN AVRO146 IN TKOF CLB DECLARED AN EMER AND RETURNED TO THE DEP ARPT DUE TO R MAIN GEAR UNSAFE LIGHT.

Narrative

DURING TKOF WITH POSITIVE RATE; GEAR HANDLE WAS SELECTED UP. ALL GEAR LIGHTS WENT OUT EXCEPT THE RED R GEAR LIGHT AND THE RED LIGHT IN GEAR HANDLE. I REFED THE EMER CHKLIST; NOTIFIED ATC; AND MAINT CTL. WE RETURNED BACK TO THE ARPT AND LANDED NORMALLY. AFTER ARR AT THE GATE; I DID MY POSTFLT OF THE ACFT. I FOUND THE R MAIN GEAR; GEAR DOOR; AND GEAR WELL TO BE NORMAL. I MET 2 MECHS AT THE R MAIN GEAR OF THE ACFT. THEY; TOO; TOLD ME THAT EVERYTHING PERTAINING TO THE R GEAR AND DOOR APPEARS NORMAL. AN FAA INSPECTOR IS SAYING THAT THE R MAIN GEAR DOOR WAS NOT SECURED PROPERLY. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED WHEN THE AIRPLANE WAS ON THE GND THE RPTR AND FO INSPECTED THE R MAIN LNDG GEAR AND DOOR. 2 TECHNICIANS JOINED THEM IN THE INSPECTION BUT COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE GEAR OR DOOR. THE AIRPLANE WAS REMOVED FROM SVC AND JACKED AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THE TECHNICIANS HAD PINNED THE LNDG GEAR OPEN MECHANISM. PIN WAS REMOVED AND OP WAS NORMAL.
