A B757-200 WAS DAMAGED FROM A THROWN TIRE TREAD. COMPOSITE PANEL AND HYD LINE DAMAGE WAS INCURRED. ROUTED FOR A MAINT FERRY FOR REPAIR. THE REQUIRED FLT LOGBOOK ENTRY FOR MAINT FERRY NOT COMPLETED.
I AM A LINE MECH FOR ACR X AND AM NOW STATIONED AT ZZZ. WE HAD AN ACFT BLOW A RE-TREAD TIRE; ON TKOF IN ZZZ1 AND THEN LANDED IN ZZZ3. I WAS THEN CALLED OUT TO ZZZ3 TO ASSESS DAMAGE. #5 TIRE HAD SHED ITS RE-TREAD; YET THE CORE REMAINED INFLATED. THE #1 BRAKE LINE HAD GOTTEN BENT/CRACKED AND WAS LEAKING HYD FLUID; AND I ALSO FOUND 2 HOLES IN 2 DIFFERENT COMPOSITE PANELS JUST OUTBOARD AND AFT OF L MAIN LNDG GEAR. AT THIS POINT; THE ACFT LOGBOOK HAD 4 SEPARATE DISCREPANCIES LISTED: 1) #5 TIRE BLOWN RE-TREAD. 2) #1 BRAKE LINE HYD LEAK. 3&4) 2 SEPARATE HOLES IN COMPOSITE STRUCTURE. NOW I AM WORKING/TALKING TO 4 DIFFERENT CONNECTIONS: 1) ZZZ3 STATION MGR; 2) ZZZ1 B757 MAINT CTL; 3) ZZZ1 ENGINEERING AND 4) ZZZ LEAD AND DURING THIS; I LOCKED OUT THE #1 BRAKE PER MEL AND ALSO REPLACED THE #5 TIRE ASSEMBLY; WHILE ENGINEERING WAS WORKING A POSSIBLE PERMANENT REPAIR. AT APPROX XA00 SEP/TUE/06 ENGINEERING DECIDED TO GO WITH 2 TEMPORARY/FERRY FLT REPAIRS; IN WHICH WERE COMPLETE AROUND XC00. AT THAT TIME I CONTACTED THE B757 COORDINATOR AND ASKED HIM HOW WE WERE GOING TO SIGN OFF THE 2 OPEN WRITE-UPS IN LOGBOOK. THAT'S WHEN I WAS TOLD WE WERE GOING TO LEAVE THOSE WRITE-UP OPEN; AND TO JUST MAKE SURE I GOT 2; X FORMS AND THE FERRY FLT PAPERWORK INTO THE LOGBOOK. THIS BEING WHERE THE BALL WAS DROPPED; AND I NEVER MADE A FINAL LOG INTO THE ACFT LOGBOOK. I'D NEVER DEALT WITH A FERRY FLT AND ASSUMED THE FERRY FLT SHEET/PAPERWORK (FAX'ED TO ZZZ3) AND THE 2 X FORMS THAT WERE DISCUSSED WITH PLTS' B757 COORDINATOR AND SLID INTO THE BOOK; WAS ALL THE PAPERWORK NEEDED FOR RELEASE. I'M NOW TOTALLY AWARE OF THE FINAL STEP/LOGBOOK ENTRY WHICH WAS REQUIRED; AND AM VERY CONFIDENT TO MAKE MY NEXT ROAD TRIP; WHICH MAY RESULT IN A FERRY FLT.
