Synopsis

AN ACR PLT NOTES THAT MIA PDC CLRNCS DO NOT CLRLY SPECIFY THAT AN LNAV PROC IS PART OF THE DEP CLRNC.

Narrative

WE MISREAD THE PRINTED CLRNC. THE PRINTED CLRNC WAS MIA WINCO AND LOWER ON THE PAPER IT READ WINCO01 DEP. WE MISREAD THIS TO SAY MIA9 WINCO TRANSITION. BOTH THE CAPT AND MYSELF HAD BEEN DOING THE SAME DEP (MIA9 WINCO) FOR SEVERAL YRS AND WE SIMPLY FOCUSED ON THE WORD 'WINCO.' DURING TAXI OUT; ATC DIDN'T ASK US TO CONFIRM THE 'FIRST WAYPOINT' LIKE AT OTHER ARPTS WITH RNAV DEPS. AFTER TKOF WE WERE CLRED TO THE FIRST FIX ON THE RNAV DEP. THIS POINT WAS NOT IN THE BOX SINCE THE WINCO 01 DEP WAS NOT LOADED. WHILE WE FUMBLED TO LOAD THE DEP; I FLEW TO THE NORMAL TURN POINT (NORMAL FOR RADAR VECTORS; 5000 FT AND 5 MI AT MIA OFF OF RWY 8R) AND STARTED MY TURN TO AN APPROX HDG OF 330 DEGS. THIS CAUSED US TO TURN 3 MI EARLY BEFORE THE FIRST FIX. WE TOLD ATC OF OUR PROBS LOADING THE BOX AND THEY GAVE US A HDG TO THE NEXT POINT. THERE WERE NO OTHER PROBS AND THERE WAS NO OTHER TFC IN THE AREA. I BELIEVE THE DEP SHOULD BE RENAMED THE MEGAN 01 DEP (LAST FIX BEFORE WINCO) TO ELIMINATE THE POSSIBILITY OF THIS HAPPENING TO ANOTHER CREW. A GOOD EXAMPLE IS LAX WHERE THE DEP IS THE HOLTZ 07 DEP (NOT THE TRM 01 DEP) SO THAT IT IS NOT CONFUSED WITH THE LAX 05 TRM TRANSITION. ALSO; ATC SHOULD ASK FOR VERIFICATION OF THE FIRST WAYPOINT LIKE THEY DO AT OTHER ARPTS. THIS WOULD HAVE KEPT US FROM DEVIATING FROM OUR ASSIGNED DEP.
