Synopsis

A B777-200 TAXIING AT JFK ROLLED OVER A TEMPORARY PLASTIC BARRIER.

Narrative

I TAXIED THE AIRPLANE; B777-200; AWAY FROM THE RAMP IN ACCORDANCE WITH MY CLRNC TO EXIT TXWY TA AND MAKE A L TURN AT TXWY B. AS I APCHED THE INTXN OF TXWYS TA AND B; I NOTICED TEMPORARY BARRIERS ALONG THE LEFT SIDE OF THE TXWY WHICH RESEMBLED CURBING. I DIRECTED THE RELIEF PLT TO AID IN OBSERVING THAT WE HAD SUFFICIENT CLRNC FROM THE BARRIERS AS WE MADE THE LEFT TURN FROM TXWY TA TO TXWY B. THE BARRIERS ALONG THE RAMP SIDE OF TXWY B AND THE BARRIERS ALONG THE S SIDE OF TXWY TA DID NOT INTERSECT. INSTEAD THERE WAS A LARGE GAP TO ALLOW FOR THE PASSAGE OF GND VEHICLES. THE BARRIERS THAT RAN ALONG THE RAMP SIDE OF TXWY B DID NOT APPEAR TO BE A PROB. I TOOK THE AIRPLANE A LITTLE DEEPER INTO THE TURN TO ALLOW FOR EXTRA CLRNC FROM THE BARRIERS AND THE L MAIN GEAR. THERE WERE ALSO OTHER OBSTACLES ON THE R OF TXWY B SUCH AS REFLECTORS IN THE GND AND A BLAST FENCE. AFTER CLEARING THE BARRIERS ON TXWY TA; I DIRECTED MY ATTENTION TO TXWY B AND COMPLETED THE TURN. SHORTLY AFTER COMPLETING THE TURN I HEARD A RADIO CALL FROM AN AIRPLANE BEHIND US ON TXWY B. THE RADIO CALL ADVISED GND CTL THAT WE MAY HAVE COME IN CONTACT WITH ONE OF THE BARRIERS. I RETURNED TO THE RAMP FOR INSPECTION. A GND CREW DROVE TO THE INTXN IN QUESTION AND FOUND OUR LEFT MAIN GEAR HAD ROLLED OVER THE PLASTIC BARRIERS ON THE RAMP SIDE OF TXWY B. THE RAMP SUPVR LATER ADVISED ME THAT OTHER FLTS HAD COMPLAINED ABOUT THE LACK OF CLRNC AT THAT INTXN. WE WERE FURTHER ADVISED THAT THE JFK PORT AUTHORITY HAD NOT TAKEN ANY ACTION TO REMEDY THE SITUATION. MAINT INSPECTED THE LNDG GEAR AND RETURNED THE AIRPLANE TO SVC.
