Synopsis

CHALLENGER CL600 FLT CREW HAS A CONFIGN TKOF WARNING AFTER 70 KTS DUE TO SPOILER DEPLOYMENT; REJECTS THE TKOF AND EXIT THE RWY.

Narrative

THE AIRPLANE WAS IN THE PROPER CONFIGN AND WITH NO CAUTION OR WARNING PREVIOUS TO TKOF. THE WARNING CAME AT 70 KTS AND NOT IMMEDIATELY AFTER APPLYING TKOF PWR. WHICH COULD BE DUE TO THE VIBRATION AND THE BUMPS ON THE RWY; WHICH MAYBE CAUSED THE SPOILERS TO FLUTTER AND GO BEYOND THE 3 DEGS BEFORE IT TRIGGERS THE WARNING. THE HYDS WERE ALL PRESSURIZED AND WITHIN NORMAL PARAMETERS. ABORTED TKOF AT 70 KTS DUE TO FLT SPOILER DEPLOYED MESSAGE ON EICAS. THERE WAS NO PREVIOUS INDICATION OF THE SPOILERS BEING DEPLOYED AND TKOF CONFIGN MESSAGE WAS IN GREEN. EXECUTED THE ABORT PROC AND EXITED THE RWY AND NOTIFIED THE TWR. WE STOPPED AT THE TXWY TO MAKE A PA ANNOUNCEMENT AND CHK WHAT THE PROB WAS. WE CHKED THE FLT CTL PAGE AND SAW THE SPOILERS DEPLOYED ARROWS INDICATED UP; BUT NOT FULLY DEPLOYED. WE CYCLED THE SPOILERS SWITCH AND DID NOT CLR THE MESSAGE. THE MANUAL DISARM SWITCH WAS IN THE AUTO POS FOR TKOF. THEN I WIGGLED THE FLT SPOILER LEVER AND 2 OF THE 4 SPOILERS WENT DOWN. WE CALLED MAINT AND OPS TO INFORM THEM AND PROCEEDED TO THE GATE. AFTER WE SHUT DOWN THE AIRPLANE; I WENT BACK TO THE FLT CTL PAGE AND NOTICED THAT ALL THE SPOILERS WERE DOWN AT THIS TIME. MAINT DID AN OP SYS CHK/TEST AND IT PASSED. RECEIVED A WARNING MESSAGE FROM EICAS/CDU TKOF CONFIGN SYS. THEN VERIFIED THAT SPOILERS WERE DEPLOYED ON THE FLT CTL PAGE. AN ABORT WAS IMMEDIATELY EXECUTED AND EXITED THE RWY WITH NO OTHER PROB. WE DID OUR PROCS AND AFTER LNDG CHK AND DID NOT CLR THE PROB. IT IS AN ELECTRONIC AIRPLANE AND WITH THAT IN MIND WE HAVE TO BE AWARE THAT SOMETIMES ONE CAN GET THIS TYPE OF MESSAGES AFTER THERE WERE NO PREVIOUS INDICATION OF A PROB AND ALL PARAMETERS WERE NORMAL. WE OBVIOUSLY HAVE TO TREAT IT AS REAL; AS SAFETY COMES FIRST AND ALSO; CLOSELY MONITOR THIS SYS.
