MD10-10 FLT CREW HAS AN ENCOUNTER WITH A VEHICLE AT MEM.
THIS WAS THE FIRST ICING EVENT OF THE WINTER AT MEM AND MY FIRST TIME CONDUCTING DEICE PROCS BOTH IN THE MD11 AND ALSO IN MEM. WE REQUIRED DEICING DUE TO ICE ACCUMULATION ON THE UPPER; FORWARD LEADING EDGES OF THE FLT CTL SURFACES AS NOTED DURING THE WALKAROUND. WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO DEICE AT DEICE PAD 'A' IN PREPARATION FOR TKOF FROM RWY 27. DEICE PAD 'A' IS DEPICTED AS THE INTXN OF TXWYS A AND A2. WE CONTACTED THE ACFT DEICE CTLR APCHING THIS INTXN AND COULDN'T LOCATE THE MARSHALLER OR TRUCKS. THERE WAS A B727 UNDER TOW EXITING THE MAINT RAMP TO THE S ALONG TXWY A2; WHICH HELD FOR US. AFTER A BRIEF CONVERSATION WITH THE ACFT DEICE CTLR CLARIFYING THE STATUS OF THE B727 AND LOCATION OF DEICE WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO CONTINUE TAXIING. IT WAS AT THAT TIME THAT WE SAW THE TRUCKS AND MARSHALLER E OF TXWYS A/A2. WE FOLLOWED THE MARSHALLER'S SIGNALS INTO POS. THERE WERE NUMEROUS ACFT AHEAD OF US IN LINE FOR THE RWY AND I DON'T RECALL SEEING ANY MOVEMENT FROM THE DEICE TRUCKS. I NOW ASSUME THAT THOSE ACFT MUST HAVE BEEN FROM A DIFFERENT RAMP AND HAD DEICED IN THE GATE. HOWEVER; AT THE TIME I HAD A PRECONCEIVED NOTION AND VISUALIZED THAT THE TRUCKS WOULD DEICE US FROM EITHER SIDE OF THE TXWY AS THEY WERE POSITIONED FACING INBOARD WITH BASKETS RAISED. THE ACFT DEICE CTLR TOLD US DEICE IS COMPLETE; DEICE BEGAN AT XA25; ABC-S; TYPE I. I ACKNOWLEDGED THIS INFO AND HE THEN STATED; EMPLOYEE NUMBER IS XXXXX; INITIALS ARE XX. I AGAIN ACKNOWLEDGED THIS INFO. BOTH OF US CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE DEICE EVOLUTION WAS NOW OVER. THE CAPT ADVANCED THE THROTTLES AND SAID 'CLR L' AT WHICH TIME I LOOKED TO THE R AND STATED 'CLR R.' WE THEN OBSERVED THE MARSHALLER CHARGING THE ACFT GIVING THE EMER STOP SIGNAL; WHICH WE COMPLIED WITH. THE ACFT DEICE CTLR THEN INSTRUCTED US TO SHUT DOWN THE ENGS WHICH WE COMPLIED WITH AND THEN ASKED; WHY? HE RESPONDED THAT THERE WAS A DEICE TRUCK STUCK UNDER EACH WING. THE COM RECEIVED FROM THE ACFT DEICE CTLR WAS DIFFERENT FROM WHAT IS IDENTED IN THE FOM (8.37). (EXAMPLE: PLEASE STAND BY; WILL ADVISE WHEN THE OP IS COMPLETE AND EQUIP IS CLR WAS NOT GIVEN.) NO QUERY FROM THE FLT DECK REGARDING THIS DISPARITY WAS MADE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 742874: THE ACFT I WAS OPERATING WAS INVOLVED IN A GND MISHAP. THE RESULT WAS A RESULT OF MISCOMMUNICATION WITH THE GND PERSONNEL WHO WERE PERFORMING DE-ICING PROCS ON ACFT. WHILE ON THE GND AT MEM; WE WERE BEING DE-ICED BY ACR MAINT. AFTER DE-ICING WAS COMPLETED WE WERE TOLD THE ACFT WAS 'CLEARED' AND AS A RESULT I TAXIED THE ACFT THINKING THE AREA AROUND THE ACFT WAS CLEAR. THE ACFT IMPACTED 2 DE-ICE TRUCKS.
