B737-400 CAPTAIN FINDS IT NECESSARY TO INSTRUCT GND SUPERVISORS ABOUT PROPER ACFT RECEIPT PROCEDURES FOLLOWING ACFT MOVEMENT WHILE PAX ARE DEPLANING.
UPON ARR AT LAX WE WERE SECURING THE ACFT FOR A ROUTINE OVERNIGHT. APPROX 1/4 OF THE PAX WERE STILL DEPLANING WHEN WE WERE PREPARING TO SECURE THE ACFT FOR ROUTINE OVERNIGHT AND I RELEASED THE BRAKES AND SENSED THE ACFT MOVING. I STOPPED THE ACFT WITH LIGHT BRAKES AND STOPPED THE DEPLANING. MAINT TECHNICIANS CHKED THE ACFT AND WE REPOSITIONED WITH A TUG 2-3 FT BACK TO THE '400' SPOT. JETBRIDGE WAS REALIGNED AND DEPLANING CONTINUED. NO INJURIES OR DAMAGE. I HELD A FULL DEBRIEF WITH CONTRACT AND COMPANY RAMP MGRS ON THE NEED TO USE STANDARD HAND SIGNALS AND FOLLOW ARR PROCS EXACTLY. THROUGH OUR DEBRIEF I DISCOVERED ON BLOCK IN THE ACFT MARSHALLER GAVE WHAT I PERCEIVED TO BE A CHOCK SYMBOL (WHICH I NOW REALIZED HE WAS SIMPLY WAVING HIS WANDS AT ANOTHER GND CREW MAN) AND I SPENT THE NEXT 5-10 MINS OF EFFORT TO GET THEIR ATTN FOR EXTERNAL PWR WHICH I MADE AWARE TO THE RAMP MGRS AS UNACCEPTABLE. WE REVIEWED THE PRIORITIES OF AN ARRIVING ACFT: CLR THE AREA; PROPER SIGNALS; CHOCK; EXTERNAL PWR; POSITIVE EYE CONTACT WITH CREW; AND THEN BAGGAGE AND ACFT SVCING. ENSURE ALL GND SAFETY PROCS ARE COMPLIANT. IF NOT; STOP THE SHOW.
