Synopsis

A MD80 LOG SQUAWK #1 BRAKE WEAR INDICATOR PIN WAS FLUSH. SIGNED OFF AS OK FOR THRU FLT. ISSUE IS: WHEN DOES THRU FLT SEGMENT LIMITATION END?

Narrative

WE HAD FLOWN THIS ACFT ON FROM DFW TO GDL AND BACK. AFTER COMPLETING THE WALKAROUND FOR FLT DFW TO MEX FO NOTIFIED ME THAT THE #1 BRAKE WEAR PIN WAS FLUSH. ACCORDING TO S80 OPS MANUAL LIMITATIONS PAGE 28 'BRAKE ASSEMBLY MUST BE REPLACED WHEN BRAKE WEAR INDICATOR PIN (WITH PARKING BRAKE PARKED) IS FLUSH WITH OR BELOW BRAKE HOUSING.' WE SUBSEQUENTLY ENTERED THIS DISCREPANCY IN THE ACFT LOG AS ITEM #69 AND STATED AS SUCH. MAINT BALANCED THE ENTRY AS A KF WITH THE VERBIAGE '#1 BRAKE WEAR LIMITS FLUSH; OK FOR THRU FLT.' WE FLEW THE ACFT TO MEX AND UPON ARR I NOTIFIED AGENTS AS WELL AS MAINT OF THE BRAKE WEAR PIN CONDITION ADVISING THAT I THOUGHT IT SHOULD BE REPLACED. THE NEXT MORNING WE GOT THIS SAME ACFT AND THERE HAD BEEN NO ACTION TAKEN AS TO THE BRAKES. I CALLED TUL TECH (MAINT CTL) AND SPOKE TO MR X AND IN TURN HE DISCUSSED WITH MEX MAINT AND TUL SUPVR AND DETERMINED THAT MEX BASE DID NOT HAVE TO REPAIR. WE FLEW TO DFW AND CHANGED TO ANOTHER ACFT. I LOOKED IN DECS ONLY TO SEE THAT THIS ACFT WENT OUT ON TIME WITH NO MAINT ON BRAKES TO RDU ON FLT XXXX. I WOULD LIKE CLARIFICATION AS TO WHEN DOES A THRU FLT END CONCERNING MAINT WHEN A LIMITATION IS EXCEEDED. I ALSO FEEL THAT THE ORIGINAL BAL ENTRY BY MAINT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A KD SO THAT THIS ITEM WOULD NOT BE SO EASY TO OVERLOOK.
