Synopsis

A B757-200 HAD A CENTER ELECTRIC HYD PRESS LIGHT ON THE OVERHEAD PANEL STAY ON ALL THE TIME BUT HYD PRESS WAS NORMAL. MAINT PLACARD VOIDED.

Narrative

I RECEIVED A CALL FROM A ZZZ1 MECH THAT STATED HE HAD A CTR ELECTRIC HYD PRESSURE LIGHT ON THE OVERHEAD PANEL THAT STAYED ON ALL OF THE TIME AND THAT HYD PRESSURE WAS NORMAL. I VIEWED THE WRITE-UP AND IT STATED THE SAME DISCREPANCY. AT THIS TIME; THE ITEM WAS NOT FACTED. AT THIS TIME MR X JUMPED ON LINE AND WENT ON TO TELL THE MECH; 'LET'S SEE IF IT IS THE SYS OR THE INDICATION.' THE MECH WAS THEN ADVISED TO PERFORM THE MAINT MANUAL PROC ITEM. THE MECH THEN RELAYED TO US THAT THE PROC WORKED. THAT INDICATES THAT THE PRESSURE SWITCH IS GOOD AND THAT THE INDICATION IS 'INOP.' I PLACARDED THE INDICATION AND I LATER TROUBLESHOT THE SYS AND FOUND THAT WHAT ZZZ1 MAINT SAID WAS IMPOSSIBLE; AND THAT HE COULD NOT HAVE HAD THE EICAS MESSAGE FOLLOW THE MAINT MANUAL. MR Y AND I BOTH PULLED THE ITEM UP IN THE LOG AND SAW THAT ZZZ1 HAD FACTED THE ITEM AND THAT THEY NEVER CONTACTED US. MR Y AND MYSELF THEN AGREED THAT IT WAS THE RIGHT THING TO DO AND VOIDED THE PLACARD. I HAVE LATER FOUND OUT THAT THE ITEM WAS NOT THE ITEM IN WORK AND THE ITEM THAT WAS IN WORK HAD NOT BEEN ENTERED IN THE LOG. THIS ITEM WAS AN EXACT DUPLICATION OF THE NEW DISCREPANCY.
