A319 DEPARTING LAS HAS CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH AS MANY AS TWO LIGHT ACFT.

Narrative

I WAS FLYING PF. I HAD REQUESTED THAT FLT ATTENDANTS REMAIN SEATED ON THE DEP DUE TO TURB THAT WE EXPERIENCED ON THE ARR INTO LAS. AFTER TKOF FROM LAS; DEP CTL GAVE US A CLRNC TO EXPEDITE THROUGH 14000 FT; CLB AND MAINTAIN FL190. WE WERE ON THE SHEAD 5 OAL DEP IN COMPLETE VFR CONDITIONS; LIGHT TURB. APCHING MDDOG AT 14000-15000 FT; WE HEARD AN ACR Y TALKING ABOUT A COUPLE OF ACFT THAT THEY WERE HAVING POSSIBLE TA'S WITH. ONE BEING A VFR AT 17500 FT; I BELIEVE; AND THE OTHER BEING A GLIDER AT AN ESTIMATED 14000 FT. ATC WAS JUST BEGINNING TO ADVISE US OF THE TFC WHEN WE GOT A TA ON THE VFR AT 11-12 O'CLOCK POS; 5 MI. WE WERE STILL CLBING FAIRLY RAPIDLY USING MCT FOR THE EXPEDITE CLB. 1 SECOND AFTER THE TA WE GOT A DSCNT RA COMMAND. THE SUN WAS DIRECTLY ON THE PFD OBSCURING THE IVSI BUT I COULD SEE IT WAS COMMANDING APPROX 1500 FPM DSCNT. I DISCONNECTED THE AUTOPLT AND BEGAN A DSCNT TO FOLLOW THE RA. THE RA ACFT ON THE NAV DISPLAY APPEARED TO BEGIN TO DSND. THE RA CHANGED TO A 'DSND NOW' COMMAND. I INCREASED THE DSCNT. THE LATERAL SEPARATION CONTINUED TO DIMINISH AND THE VERT SEPARATION CONTINUED TO DIMINISH EVEN THOUGH I WAS INCREASING THE DSCNT RATE TO WELL OVER 3000 FPM; SO I BEGAN A DSNDING R TURN UP TO APPROX 40 DEGS OF BANK WHICH WAS IN THE DIRECTION OF THE NEXT TURN ON THE DEP. AFTER WHICH THE RA CHANGED TO A 'MONITOR VERT SPD' COMMAND AT WHICH POINT I BEGAN TO LEVEL AS THE IVSI WAS COMMANDING. UP TO THIS POINT WE NEVER MADE VISUAL CONTACT WITH THE ACFT BUT AS I BEGAN TO LEVEL OFF; I SAW THE ACFT (A GA SMALL ACFT; POSSIBLY A MALIBU OR PILATUS; BUT I WAS NOT THINKING ABOUT WHAT TYPE IT WAS; ONLY ITS PROX TO US) AT 9 O'CLOCK POS; SLIGHTLY HIGHER (+700 FT) IN A NOSE LOW ATTITUDE. WE THEN BEGAN A CLB AGAIN AS PER ATC INSTRUCTIONS AND TOLD TO SLOW TO 250 KTS. DURING THIS EVENT WE SAW THE CLOSING ACFT ON THE NAV DISPLAY COME WITHIN 2 NM AND VERT SEPARATION OF NO LESS THAN +300 FT; BUT WHAT WAS MOST CONCERNING WAS THAT AS WE MADE DEVS TO AVOID THE TCAS ACFT; IT SEEMED TO MATCH OUR EVERY MOVE UP UNTIL WE MADE THE BREAK TO THE R. WE MADE NO ABRUPT CTL MOVEMENT OR ABNORMAL G-LOADING AT ANY TIME. NO PAX ASKED ABOUT THE EVENT TO THE FLT ATTENDANTS OR TO US ON DEPLANING. DURATION OF EVENT 15-20 SECONDS.
