B737 FLT CREW LANDS LONG ON RWY 8R AT GRR AFTER RWY CHANGE FROM RWY 26L PUTS THEM VERY HIGH ON THE APCH.
WE WERE EXPECTING RWY 26L AT GRR AND JUST PRIOR TO SWITCH OVER FROM CTR TO APCH WERE TOLD TO EXPECT RWY 08R. I STARTED TO CHANGE THE BOX WHILE WE WERE SWITCHING FREQUENCIES AND I WAS STARTING THE APCH/DSCNT CHKLIST. CHK IN WITH APCH WAS DELAYED BECAUSE THERE WAS ANOTHER CALL AND I WAS COMPLETING THE CHKLIST AND GETTING THE FMC AND ILS FREQUENCIES SET. APCH CALLED US AND GAVE US A LOWER ALTITUDE AND I SUGGESTED TO THE FO THAT HE START SLOWING IMMEDIATELY AND NOTED TO HIM THAT THE APCH WAS GOING TO BE A SLAM DUNK. WE CONFIGURED EXTREMELY EARLY TO ASSIST IN DSNDING AND I SET THE ASSIGNED ALTITUDES WHILE CHKING THE ARC ON THE EHSI TO MAKE SURE WE WERE GOING TO MAKE THE RWY. WE WERE SLOWED TO 140 KTS; FULLY CONFIGURED APPROX 15 MILES FROM THE END OF THE RWY. APCH APPROVED A CROSS PAST THE LOC BEFORE TURNING WHICH WE DID; SLIGHTLY. I TOLD THE FO THAT HE HAD IT MADE AND TO KEEP THE AIRPLANE DSNDING WHICH HE DID. WE LANDED ON SPEED APPROX 2500 FT DOWN THE RWY.SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 747513: ON APCH TO GRR THEY KEPT US HIGH THEN CHANGED TO A RWY WHICH WAS CLOSER; AND HAD AN 18 KNOT TAILWIND ON FINAL. I CONFIGURED TO FLAPS 40 AND IT LOOKED LIKE WE WERE OK; THOUGH IT WAS A STEEP APCH. AT 500 FT WE WERE ON SPEED FULLY CONFIGURED; POWERED UP; BUT ABOUT 1.5 DOTS HIGH. WE WERE VISUAL ON A 10000 FT RWY SO THE CAPT SAID TO CONTINUE; I GOT A SINK RATE CALL AND CORRECTED. THE CAPT AGAIN SAID CONTINUE. WE LANDED UNEVENTFULLY; AND TURNED OFF AT MIDFIELD.
