Synopsis

CABIN ATTENDANT IS INJURED WHEN A319 ENCOUNTERS WAKE TURBULENCE ON DESCENT TO PHL.

Narrative

DESCENDING ON THE BOJID ONE ARRIVAL. IN DESCENT TO CROSS BUNTS AT 6000 FEET. APPROXIMATELY 6-8 MILES WEST OF BUNTS; DESCENDING THROUGH APPROX 7000 FEET; THE AIRCRAFT ROLLED UNEXPECTEDLY TO THE LEFT. AUTOPILOT WAS ON. I TOOK CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AFTER I CONFIRMED WITH THE FLIGHT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS THAT THIS TURN WAS UNINTENDED. CONTROL WAS REGAINED AND WE PROCEEDED TO LAND UNEVENTFULLY AT PHL. AFTER THE OCCURRENCE; WE CHECKED THE FLIGHT CONTROL PAGES ON THE ECAM TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING WAS OPERATING NORMALLY. THEN WE CHECKED WITH APPROACH CONTROL TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PRECEDING AIRCRAFT WAS. WE WERE TOLD IT WAS A C-17. WE WERE NOT TOLD OR WARNED OF THIS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. AFTER FINDING THIS OUT; I HAD THE FO CALL THE PURSER TO FIND OUT IF EVERYONE WAS OK. SHE RESPONDED YES. I THEN HAD THE FO MAKE A PA THAT WE HAD ENCOUNTERED TURBULENCE ASSOCIATED WITH AN AIRCRAFT AHEAD OF US; AND THAT EVERYTHING IS NORMAL. AFTER LANDING DURING TAXI-IN; WE RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE PURSER THAT ONE OF THE FA'S IN THE BACK HAD BEEN INJURED. A DECISION WAS MADE TO HAVE THE FLIGHT MET WITH PARAMEDICS. WE PULLED INTO THE GATE AND SHE WAS ATTENDED TO BY THE PARAMEDICS AFTER THE PASSENGERS DEPLANED.
