Synopsis

CRJ200 EICAS INDICATED A FAULT WITH THE SPOILERS WHILE ON FINAL APCH. FLT CREW PERFORMED A GAR AND RETURNED FOR EMER LNDG.

Narrative

DURING A VISUAL APCH TO RWY XXL; WE RECEIVED A 'SPOILERONS FAULT' STATUS MESSAGE WHICH WAS THEN FOLLOWED BY AN 'INBOARD GND SPOILER FAULT' STATUS MESSAGE. WE WERE FULLY CONFIGURED FOR LNDG; BUT INSTEAD OF CONTINUING THE APCH; I ELECTED TO (WITH THE CAPT'S CONCURRENCE) GO AROUND SO THAT WE COULD ASSESS THE SIT. I PERFORMED A NORMAL GAR; WAS HANDED BACK OVER TO DEP; AND ASKED FOR DELAYING VECTORS WHILE THE QRH WAS CONSULTED. I CONTINUED TO FLY THE AIRPLANE WITH THE AID OF THE AUTOPLT AND TOOK OVER CTL OF THE COM #1 RADIO WHILE THE CAPT CONSULTED THE QRH; BRIEFED THE FLT ATTENDANT AND PAX; AND SPOKE TO COMPANY MAINT CTL ON COM #2. INFORMED ATC OF OUR SIT AND DECLARING AN EMER; GIVING THEM A BRIEF SYNOPSIS OF THE EVENT AS WELL AS FUEL STATE AND NUMBER OF SOULS. AFTER CONSULTING THE QRH AND COMPANY MAINT CTL; THE CAPT INFORMED ME THAT BOTH SYS SHOULD PERFORM NORMALLY; BUT WITHOUT NORMAL REDUNDANCY. NOT WANTING TO LEAVE ANYTHING TO CHANCE; I ASKED THE CAPT TO INFORM ATC THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO LAND ON THE LONGER RWY XYR; AND TO VERIFY THAT EMER SVCS WOULD BE STANDING BY. THE APCH TO RWY XYR WAS HAND FLOWN BY ME; AND THE LNDG WAS NORMAL AND UNEVENTFUL. AFTER EXITING THE RWY; I INFORMED ATC THAT NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS REQUIRED. CONTRACT MAINT MET THE ACFT AT THE GATE AND PERFORMED A SYS RESET. WE CONTINUED ON TO OUR DEST WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.
