Synopsis

AN A320 FLT CREW EXPERIENCED A YELLOW HYD SYS FAILURE DURING CLIMBOUT. THEY DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND DIVERTED TO A NEARBY ARPT.

Narrative

DURING CLB OUT OF ZZZ1 WITH THE FO ACTING AS PF; WE GOT YELLOW SYS HYD FAILURE ECAM IMMEDIATELY AFTER FLAP RETRACTION. THE CAPT IMMEDIATELY CALLED ECAM THEN SILENCED THE WARNING. HE LOOKED AT THE ECAM THEN DECLARED AN EMER WITH ATC AND REQUESTED A LNDG INTO ZZZZ. THE FO WAS DESIGNATED AS PF WHILE THE CAPT COORD WITH APCH CTL; DISPATCH AND THE FLT ATTENDANTS. THE CABIN CREW WAS ADVISED AND THE PAX WERE BRIEFED VIA THE PA BY THE CAPT. WE WERE TOLD TO INTERCEPT THE RWY XXL LOC INTO ZZZZ BY ATC. WE JOINED THE LOC WHILE THE CAPT WORKED THE ECAM. ONCE THE ECAM WAS COMPLETE; THE CAPT MADE THE DECISION TO FLY THE APCH AND LNDG. THE CAPT BRIEFED THE APCH AND THEN THE FO COMPLETED THE LNDG DISTANCE PROC AND OVERWT LNDG CHKLIST. WE BOTH AGREED TO FLY THE APCH AT A SLOW SPD FROM 50 NM OUT ON THE ZZZZ XXL LOC SO WE WOULD HAVE TIME TO COMPLETE ALL NECESSARY CHKLISTS AND BRIEFING. ONCE ALL ITEMS WERE COMPLETED; WE ACCEPTED APCH CLRNC FOR THE ILS XXL INTO ZZZZ. THE APCH WAS FLOWN NORMALLY WITH AUTOPLT DISCONNECTION AT 1000 FT AGL. THE LNDG WAS MADE IN A MINIMUM RATE OF DSCNT AND THE ACFT WAS PUT INTO REVERSE THRUST OPERATIVE ON ENG #1 ONLY. WE ROLLED OUT TO THE END OF THE RWY XXL WITH THE EMER EQUIP FOLLOWING US ON THE PARALLEL TXWY. ONCE CLR OF THE RWY; WE WERE CLRED TO TAXI TO GATE AND THE EMER VEHICLES WERE RELEASED ONCE THE ACFT WAS ASCERTAINED TO BE ABLE TO PROCEED NORMALLY WITH NO OTHER ABNORMAL INDICATIONS. WE TAXIED IN TO GATE AND THE RAMP WAS ADVISED TO CHOCK ALL WHEELS. WE DEBRIEFED MAINT; THE FLT ATTENDANTS; AND CUSTOMER SVC ONCE ALL PAX HAD DEPLANED. WE REQUESTED TO NOT FLY THE REST OF THE DAY'S FLTS DUE TO ADRENALINE RUSH AND EXPECTED CRASH ONCE THE RUSH HAD WORN OFF.
