AN A319 PILOT REPORTS THE CRT'S ARE UNREADABLE IN DAYLIGHT CONDITIONS DUE TO THEIR DIMNESS. ACR MAINT STANDARDS ALLOW DIM SCREENS AND PILOTS ACCEPT THEM.

Narrative

I THOUGHT IT WAS TIME TO SAVE A STANDARD 'CRT TOO DIM BUT MAINT SIGNED IT OFF ANYWAY' BLURB ON MY COMPUTER SO I COULD JUST PASTE IT IN HERE WEEKLY; BUT THIS LAST SIGNOFF BROUGHT SOMETHING TO THE FRONT BURNER -- PLANE/CREW SHOPPING. I'VE BEEN ON THE FLEET ALMOST 4 YRS; AND I STILL TALK TO PLTS WHO HAVE BEEN TRAINED THAT DIM SCREENS ARE JUST PART OF THE JOB WHEN FLYING AIRBUS. 'WE KNOW YOU CAN'T SEE THEM; GEE THAT'S TOO BAD BUT SOME OTHER PLT WILL FLY IT' MENTALITY PREVAILS. I HAD PLANE CHANGES WHEN I ASKED TO HAVE THEM FIXED AND KNOW THEY WERE ASSIGNED TO A DIFFERENT CREW WHO TOOK THEM WITHOUT CHANGE. WELL THIS LAST SIGNOFF PROVES IT. ZZZ MAINT CHANGED 2 DIM SCREENS; BUT FAILED TO CHANGE THE 3RD AND MOST VITAL. I DON'T KNOW WHETHER WE WERE OUT OF STOCK; OR MAINT DECIDED IT WAS TOO EXPENSIVE; BUT IT WENT OUT WITH THE FOLLOWING SIGNOFF...OUTBOUND CREW OK WITH IT...WHEN DID THAT BECOME MEASURE OF WHAT IS GOOD OR NOT? CAN AN OUTBOUND CREW ACCEPT A LOW OIL CONDITION? HOW ABOUT AN INTERMITTENT VHF? WHILE WE'RE AT IT I MIGHT WANT TO TAKE AN ACFT THAT WON'T EXTEND TO FLAPS FULL BECAUSE ALL I PLAN TO DO IS FLAPS 3 DEGS. OUTBOUND CREW IS OK WITH IT -- GOT TO MAKE IT RIGHT DOESN'T IT?
