Synopsis

TWO ACFT AT CTAF FNL LANDED AT OPPOSITE ENDS OF THE RWY 15/33 AND SAW ONE ANOTHER AFTER LNDG. THE PILOTS TOOK EVASIVE ACTION AVOIDING CONFLICT.

Narrative

ACFT X AND ACFT Y LANDED ON OPPOSITE ENDS OF RWY 15/33 AT FNL IN CALM WIND CONDITIONS. MISSET OF CTAF BY ACFT X PLT PREVENTED COM BTWN THE ACFT. VISUAL AND TCAS SCANS WERE EACH FOCUSED ON TFC FOR THE RESPECTIVE RWY. IMMEDIATELY ON LNDG BOTH ACFT SAW EACH OTHER. THE 8500 FT FNL RWY ALLOWED THE ACFT TO AVOID A CLOSE ENCOUNTER. THE ACFT Y EXITED AT THE FIRST HIGH-SPD TXWY. THE ACFT X MOVED TO THE R ON RWY 33 AND INTO THE GRASS WITHOUT DAMAGE TO THE ACFT OR THE RWY MARKERS. AFTER BOTH ACFT WERE CLR OF THE RWYS; THE ACFT X PLT IDENTED THE CTAF ERROR IN HIS COM 1 (122.725 VERSUS 122.7); ANNOUNCED REENTERING THE RWY AND TAXIED TO THE RAMP. BOTH PLTS DISCUSSED THE SIT. CAUSE OF CONFLICT MISSET CTAF BY ACFT X PLT AND FAILURE TO DOUBLE-CHK FREQ SETTING AGAINST CHARTS. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: OTHER LCL ARPTS ON SIMILAR CTAF (122.725) GAVE LCL TFC CHATTER TO ACFT X PLT AND LED TO THE CONCLUSION OF NO TFC IN THE FNL PATTERN. CALM WINDS ON AWOS MADE BOTH RWYS 15 AND 33 APPROPRIATE. TFC AND TCAS SCAN BY EACH PLT FOCUSED ON TFC TO AND/OR ON THE RESPECTIVE RWYS (15/33) AND MISSED EACH OTHER ON FINAL. ACTIONS BY PLTS PREVENTED THE RWY CONFLICT FROM ESCALATING. IMMEDIATELY ON LNDG BOTH PLANES SAW EACH OTHER AND TOOK EVASIVE ACTION. THE ACFT Y EXITED RWY 15 ON A HIGH-SPD TXWY. THE ACFT X MOVED TO THE FAR R OF RWY 33 AND THEN INTO THE GRASS TO CLR THE RWY. DUE TO THE 8500 FT RWY LENGTH APPROX 2000 FT SEPARATED THE ACFT Y TURNOFF AND THE ACFT X EXIT TO THE GRASS.
