B737-700 FO REPORTS ATC FAILED TO PROVIDE DESIRED TRAFFIC SEPARATION SUPPORT WHEN THE ACFT SUFFERED A FLT CONTROL ANOMALY WHICH REQUIRED EXTENDED CHECKLIST PROCEDURES AND A HIGHER THAN NORMAL APCH SPEED. ATC PROVIDED VECTOR ALSO DIRECTED THEM TOWARD ANOTHER ACFT; TRIGGERING A TCAS RA.
WE HAD A FLT CTL PROB AND DECLARED AN EMER. ATC SEEMED CONCERNED WITH OUR ACTIONS AS WE REQUESTED VECTORS UNTIL WE RAN CHKLISTS AND PREPARED THE ACFT FOR LNDG. ONE CTLR EVEN MENTIONED THAT THEY HAD ANOTHER CARRIER'S BIG ARR RUSH THEY WERE CONCERNED ABOUT. WE HAD BEEN VECTORED TO THE S OF THE ARPT HEADING N WHEN ATC ANNOUNCED A TFC ALERT. WE WERE AT 5000 FT AND SO WAS TFC ACCORDING TO OUR TCAS AS WE RECEIVED AN RA FOR A 1500 FPM DSCNT. WE DEVIATED FROM OUR ASSIGNED 5000 FT TO COMPLY AS THE OTHER ACFT CAME WITHIN 300 FT VERTLY. AFTER THE RA; WE CLBED BACK TO 5000 FT. WE CROSSED OVER THE ARPT TO THE N AND REQUESTED A DOWNWIND FOR RWY XX. WE THEN REQUESTED OUR BASE AND ANNOUNCED WE HAD THE ARPT. WE WERE TOLD TO FOLLOW ANOTHER CARRIER TO RWY XX. OUR APCH SPD WAS FASTER THAN NORMAL AS WAS REQUIRED BY THE QRH. ON SHORT FINAL; THE OTHER CARRIER WAS STILL ON THE RWY AND FINALLY CLRED PRIOR TO TOUCHDOWN. ONCE WE LANDED AND IT WAS SAFE TO CLR THE RWY; THERE WERE NOT MANY OPTIONS TO CLR BECAUSE THERE WERE ACFT LINED UP ON THE PARALLEL TXWY S OF RWY XX. I WAS SOMEWHAT CONCERNED ABOUT THE EMER FIRE CREWS MANEUVERING AROUND THESE ACFT IF WE DID NEED ASSISTANCE ON THE GND. WE FINALLY DID CLR. OUR TAXI TO THE GATE WAS UNEVENTFUL. ATC COULD BETTER ASSIST EMER ACFT AND PROTECT AIRSPACE AND RWY ENVIRONMENT AS PRIORITY IS GIVEN TO EMER ACFT. I WOULD HAVE PREFERRED THAT ALL TFC WAS KEPT CLR OF US WHILE WE WORKED OUT OUR CHKLISTS TO AVOID HAVING TO DEVIATE IN AN EMER. I ALSO WOULD HAVE PREFERRED THAT ALL TFC WAS HELD OR VECTORED FROM BOTH LNDG RWYS FROM THE TIME WE ANNOUNCED WE WERE READY TO LAND UNTIL THE TIME WE CLRED THE RWY. KEEPING THE PARALLEL TXWY CLR FOR US EXCEPT FOR THE EMER VEHICLES WOULD HAVE BEEN APPROPRIATE ALSO.
