FLIGHT CREW OF B737-700 SUFFERS TRACK DEVIATION WHEN FILED ROUTE AND REVISED SEGMENT PORTIONS OF PDC CLEARANCE ARE MISUNDERSTOOD.
ATC QUERIED AT URNUW WHY WE HADN'T TURNED TO CDC. PDC INITIAL CLRNC READ WEVIC 1 BCE KSINO. AMENDED LINE SHOWED WEVIC 1 KSINO. NO MENTION OF CDC. ZLC WAS ALSO CONFUSED WITH THIS CLRNC AND UNDERSTOOD THE CONFUSION. NO FACTOR. WITHIN 4 MI FOR CORRECTION. FLT CONTINUED UNEVENTFULLY TO KSINO AND GRNDPA 1. AMENDED CLRNC SHOULD READ: WEVIC 1.CDC.KSINO. THAT WOULD CLARIFY DEP FOR BOTH AIR CREW AND CTR. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 802289: WE NOTED THAT WE WERE FLYING AS CLRED WITH BCE AS OUR TRANSITION; IE; WEVIC 1 KSINO BCE GNDPA1. WE THEN NOTICED THE AMENDED PORTION OF THE PDC WAS DIFFERENT. WEVIC1 KSINO GRNDPA1. THE AMENDED CLRNC WHEN WE RESEARCHED SHOWED THAT WE SHOULD PASS OVER CDC RATHER THAN BCE. THE CTLR SAID HE WAS ALSO CONFUSED BY THE PDC CLRNC AND IT WASN'T CLR TO HIM WHAT OUR FILED RTE SHOULD BE. NO PROB THOUGH; AND HE CLRED US TO KSINO AND THE REST OF THE FILED RTE. WE ADVISED HIM THAT WE COULD SEE OUR ERROR AND THAT HE WAS RIGHT ABOUT CDC. WE CONTINUED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THE AMENDED CLRNC WAS CONFUSING. IT WOULD HAVE HELPED IF THE CLRNC WOULD HAVE NOTED CDC RATHER THAN NO TRANSITION AS THE IDENT FOR THE FORK IN THE ROAD (SO TO SPEAK). OFTEN AN AMENDED CLRNC SHOWS A LITTLE DIFFERENCE FROM THE FILED RTE BUT WHEN WE RESEARCH THE ROUTING THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE. WE NEED THE TRANSITION TO SHOW UP; IE; CDC TO HELP HINDSIGHT A DIFFERENT RTE. EXAMPLE: FILED AS WEVIC1 KSINO BCE GRNPA1. AMENDED AS: WEVIC1 KSINO GRNPA1.
