Synopsis

A B737 CAPTAIN REPORTED TWO RAMP PERSONNEL DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO HIS ENGINES ON TAXI IN AT DFW.

Narrative

I STOPPED MY ACFT BECAUSE PEOPLE (IE; 2 RAMP PERSONNEL) WERE IN THE ACFT PROTECTED AREA. THEY REMAINED STATIONARY IN THE PROTECTED AREA; ONE ON EACH WING LINED UP WITH THE #1 AND #2 ENGS. I CONTACTED RAMP CTL AND REQUESTED THEY MOVE; I WAS FEARFUL FOR THEIR LIFE. AFTER THE FLT; I SPOKE WITH THE CREW CHIEF AND EXPRESSED MY CONCERNS. HE BASICALLY BLEW ME OFF. THIS WAS POTENTIALLY VERY DANGEROUS AND COULD HAVE BEEN A FATAL EVENT. THE TIME OF THIS EVENT WAS 5 MINS PRIOR TO BRAKES PARKED. IN ADDITION; WE ENCOUNTERED A 5 MIN PARKING DELAY. RECOMMENDATION: 1) ENSURE RAMP PERSONNEL ARE BRIEFED ON THE HAZARDS OF BEING IN THE PROTECTED AREA WHEN AN ACFT IS BEING PARKED. IF ON A SLIGHT UPWARD SLOPE; AND THE CAPT HAS TO GOOSE THE ENG THROTTLES TO KEEP THE ACFT MOVING AND A FELLOW EMPLOYEE IS NEAR THE ENG INTAKE; THAT PERSON COULD BE SUCKED INTO THE INTAKE; WHICH COULD BE FATAL. RAMP PERSONNEL ARE ACCUSTOMED TO BEING AROUND ACFT ON A DAILY BASIS; AND THEY BECOME COMPLACENT. THE B737; WITH THE LOW HANGING ENG; CREATES A POTENTIALLY FATAL THREAT.
