Synopsis

AFTER REPLACING THE #2 INERTIAL REFERENCE UNIT (IRU); MECHANIC FORGETS TO INCLUDE THE COMPLETED OPERATIONAL CHECK PAPERWORK IN THE WORK PACKAGE. AS A RESULT; THE B737-300 CATEGORY-3 STATUS WAS NOT RECERTIFIED NOR DOWNGRADED AS REQUIRED.

Narrative

WHILE WORKING OVERTIME ON GRAVEYARD SHIFT; I WAS ISSUED A WORK PACKAGE FOR ACFT WITH A MAINT CHK. INCLUDED WAS A WRITE-UP TO REPLACE THE #2 IRU. I REPLACED THE #2 IRU PER THE MAINT MANUAL AND PERFORMED ALL THE REQUIRED MAINT MANUAL OPS CHKS; THE HUD MAINT MANUAL OPS CHKS; AS WELL AS THE FUNCTIONAL TASKS THAT ARE REQUIRED ON THE MAINT TASK. AT THAT POINT; I CONTINUED ON WITH OTHER MAINT TASK SCHEDULED ON THE ACFT. AFTER ALL SCHEDULED MAINT HAD BEEN COMPLETED; I WENT TO FINALIZE THE PAPERWORK AND INADVERTENTLY NEGLECTED TO INCLUDE THE MAINT TASK PAPERWORK WITH THE WORK PACKAGE AND AS A RESULT OF THIS; THE ACFT WAS NOT RECERTIFIED TO CAT III STATUS AND A VERIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT OBTAINED. ALSO; THE ACFT WAS NOT DOWNGRADED TO CAT I STATUS. MAINT CTL WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD DOWNGRADE THE ACFT TO CAT I IN XXX WHEN IT LANDED AND UPGRADE THE ACFT TO CAT III STATUS IN YYY. I FEEL THAT THIS SITUATION COULD BE GREATLY REDUCED IF PLANNING WOULD ISSUE A MT PAPERWORK WITH ANY SCHEDULED COMPONENT CHANGE THAT IS A CAT III ITEM.
