While on a field trip; after accomplishing a FADEC replacement on the #2 engine of an ERJ-190; one of two mechanics was upgraded to Inspector; to sign off the RII for the FADEC change. Inspector is later informed he may have violated company procedures.

Narrative

On Jan/09 I was called for a road trip to ZZZ for a possible Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) problem on an E-190 aircraft. Upon reviewing the log and history in aircraft diagnostic system; it was determined to replace the FADEC on #2 engine. Maintenance Manual reference and required checkout wax faxed to me from Maintenance Control. After accomplishing the work (2 Mechanics) and beginning the logbook signoff; I called Maintenance Control to question if this was an RII. Upon discovery that it was; a discussion began to assure a proper logbook signoff. I am run-up/taxi-qualified and have completed the Intermediate 2 week E-190 class. My co-worker was not run qualified and had only been to the 'GEN FAM;' 1 week class. It was determined for me to become an Inspector upgrade to sign the item off. The signoff is all inclusive of the work accomplished (including the engine run). We determined that the Procedures Manual may not have been followed to the letter. We try to get change implemented and inform all Maintenance personnel of potential problems. Company did not send an E-190 qualified Inspector on the road trip. Always send an E-190 qualified Inspector when there is a possible FADEC problem. A laptop and a road trip phone should be sent on all road trips.
