Synopsis

GA SMA NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED AFTER LNDG.

Narrative

THE ACFT INVOLVED IS A SMA. THE ACFT WAS BEING RETURNED FROM RADIO REPAIR (SGH) APPROX 9 MILES OUT OF CALLED UNICOM AND RECEIVED A LANDING ADVISORY OF 'WINDS WEST - SW AT 24 KTS; USING RWY 26.' I ENTERED A BASE TURNED FINAL AND LANDED. WITH A XWIND LANDING THE UPWIND MAIN ON RWY FIRST (LEFT MAIN) THEN THE R MAIN AND THEN THE NOSE WHEEL. GUMP'S WAS PERFORMED ON BASE LEG; AND CONFIRMED AGAIN ON FINAL. SHORTLY AFTER THE NOSE WHEEL TOUCHED THE RWY THE NOSE WHEEL ASSEMBLY COLLAPSED THEN THE PREPARATION - LOWER COWLING STRUCK THE RWY; DISTANCE FROM NOSE WHEEL TOUCHDOWN TO PROP STRIKE APPROX 150'. THE ACFT SLID 795' AFTER THE FIRST PROP STRIKE. THERE WAS NO PERSONAL INJURY TO PLT OR PASSENGER. THERE IS A RECORD OF A PROP STRIKE IN THE LOGBOOKS; AND REPAIRS BEING MADE. IN ATTEMPTING TO REMOVE ACFT FROM RWY; THE TAIL WAS LOWERED. AND A MECHANIC ATTEMPTED TO LOCK THE NOSE WHEEL IN PLACE; THE 'OVER CENTERLOCK' HAD TO BE STRUCK SEVERAL TIMES TO GET THE NOSE WHEEL TO LOCK IN PLACE. AT THIS TIME NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE; AND NOT SURE OF WHAT CORRECTIVE ACTION CAN BE TAKEN.
