Synopsis

A cargo flight crew taxied the wrong way on a taxiway at CYMX because they found the commercial charts and NOTAMs confusing.

Narrative

Taxiing from cargo ramp at CYMX to Runway 06 for takeoff with Maribel FSS Advisory Control. NOTAM YMX 07/023 YMX CYMX TWY J; TWY E; TWY F south of TWY H CLOSED WEF 0907131200-0907172300. I misunderstood this to mean that only the portions of Taxiway J; E; F that were south of Taxiway H were closed. Using commercial charting product. Chart indicated a taxiway just east of Taxiway F without an X meaning that it should be available for taxi. This is first experience at CYMX for crew. Crew missed that entire portion of Taxiway J and Taxiway E were closed on ATIS. I turned down the first taxiway east of Taxiway F (unnamed on chart and not marked with an X) to join Taxiway J (which was not South of Hotel but south of Taxiway I) ; which is the appropriate directional taxiway for our direction of travel according to chart. Taxiway J and Taxiway I are opposite direction one-way taxiways on our charting product. In no NOTAM or chart or communication with Mirabel FSS did it indicate that it we were required to taxi the wrong way on Taxiway I. Realized error and negotiated a return to Taxiway I with Mirabel FSS. No actual work in progress on Taxiway J.
