CE525 First Officer departed taxiway while attempting to complete a 180 degree turn. After inspection by First Officer flight departed. Damage to right brake assembly was later discovered.
We were departing HDC. We were rushed due to the passengers arriving early for their trip. We got underway; but made some of our CTAF calls on the wrong frequency. We started to taxi to Runway 31; but were unaware of a King Air that was landing on Runway 13. As we pulled up to Runway 31 we saw that the King Air wanted to exit the runway on the same taxiway that we were on. I told the Captain lets cross Runway 13/31 and we'll turn around on the taxiway and hold short on the other side. As we crossed Runway 13/31 the Captain stated that he didn't think that we had enough room to turn around on the taxiway. To be sure I moved to the right side of the taxiway to see for myself if there would be enough room. I looked to my right to make sure that I did have enough taxiway to the right but misjudged the distance between my wheel and the edge of the taxiway. I added power to continue and the right wheel slipped of the edge of the taxiway. We were able to get the airplane back on the taxiway and once we were there the Captain suggested I go outside and look at the landing gear to see if there was any damage. On the right gear I found some mud on the brake assembly but at the time I could not see any damage. We decided to continue the trip. It was discovered later that there was some damage to the bottom of the brake assembly.
The First Officer began our taxi from the FBO ramp to the end of Runway 31 for our departure. We did not see or hear that a King Air had landed on Runway 13 as we were leaving the FBO ramp. As we approached the departure end of Runway 31; we realized the King Air was 'trapped' on the runway with no place to exit other than the taxiway on which we were sitting. I came up on CTAF and said to the other aircraft; 'we'll taxi across the end of the runway so you can get off and then we will turn around for our takeoff.' The taxiways at HDC are very old and narrow and I knew we were going to have to taxi ahead for some distance to find someplace suitable for a 180 degree turn. The First Officer taxied across the end of Runway 31/13 onto the taxiway on the west side of the runway. Then he said; 'I'll just go ahead and turn around here;' and began a right turn. I knew the taxiway was too narrow for us to turn around on; and was just opening my mouth to say 'It's too narrow; Don't turn here;' when the right main and the nose gear departed the taxiway into an area of very hard dirt beside the taxiway. The aircraft came to a stop and I said; 'I've got the aircraft; Let's see if we can get back on the taxiway.' I was able to add power (not much more than normal because the ground was so hard) and taxi back onto the taxiway. The First Officer got out of the aircraft; did a thorough walkaround inspection and reported back to me that there was no damage to the right main; right gear door on nose gear assembly we then taxied around the airport to Runway 18 from which we made a normal takeoff and departure.
