Synopsis

An SF340 flight crew encountered a failed nosegear safe light indicator; they subsequently landed uneventfully.

Narrative

During the execution of an ILS approach; gear selector place in down position. Main gear lights illuminated; but nose gear did not. Immediately cycled gear up; then back down. No illumination; but gear transit light off. Advised Tower that we would be doing a missed approach at 500 FT; and asked for a visual confirmation of nose gear down. Tower confirms gear in down position. Executed missed approach; climbed to 3000 FT and received vectors. Took a few minutes to find and perform the gear unsafe checklist. Cycled gear multiple times; switched light bulbs and still no illumination. Transit light still off when gear selected down. Hydraulic indicators normal. Declared an emergency; received vectors; again got verbal confirmation that gear was down and landed. Everything normal; taxied to gate. Nosegear landing gear indicator light did not illuminate when gear in down position. It would be helpful to have a quick index in the beginning of the checklist chapter to reference conditions that do not have an associated Central Warning Panel light.
