An air carrier Mechanic reports having to constantly re-Inspect 'Repaired' Components from a Contracted Repair Vendor his carrier uses for their CF34A engines and CRJ aircraft parts. Vendor allegedly has a history of Maintenance work not being performed; even though their FAA 8130-3 Serviceable Tags are signed-off as all work completed.
Today I selected a Cascade vane panel and a few other parts for my Torque Box. Previous experience has taught me to inspect 'Repaired' Components that we use from a Contract Repair Vendor before installation; because of a history of 'missed' Maintenance performed by this particular Vendor. I noted that the Repair Disposition Report; as referred to in the (FAA) 8130-3 Tag; stated the Cascade had been welded to repair a crack. The crack location was very specific in the Report; 3' inches from Edge of Part (EOP) and 1.25' from right EOP .25' of an inch long. After closer examination; due to the fact that Vendor's welds are typically apparent; I found the crack still existed and no weld had been performed. The report clearly states the crack had been repaired by welding and a Dye Penetrant Inspection had been performed. This was clearly not done. This is not a one time deal with this Vendor; as I stated earlier many parts have been sent back for 'Warranty' due to further damage or other problems found on the 'Repaired' part prior to installation on our carrier's components.I feel the quality of work performed by this Vendor is in question. The Vendor should be removed as one of the companies we do business with; and put these Components in an environment with which the Maintenance quality would be less in question and better controlled. If a Mechanic did this type of work and was discovered by the correct authorities; he/she would have action taken against his/her License.
