2010-02 · NASA ASRS report 871672
An air carrier crew reported programming the aircraft's FMC for the anticipated flight routing. The PDC clearance contained an amendment which the crew failed to see. L30 ATC issued vectors to the filed routing.
Arrived at LAS with over 30 minutes ground time to our next flight. I input the planned route from the Dispatch Release which included LAS.TRALR2.MLF... with the intent to amend and crosscheck after receiving the PDC. Finished loading the route and checked the LEGS page for the TRALR2 Departure. We received the PDC and copied the squawk; saw the TRALR2 with the end of the clearance and 'Comply with altitudes on SID; DPRT freq published.' I completely missed the -STAAV4.MLF- line above the route line. I was somewhat focused on determining the altitude for the MCP window reviewing the TRALR2 with all at or above altitudes and looking for the departure frequency. At this point; I was complete with the First Officer through flight preparation. The Captain and I then accomplished the Before Start; Clearance Brief; Flight and Departure Briefings. I verbally briefed the clearance. After takeoff we were told to contact Departure. I contacted them on 125.9 and was subsequently told to contact Departure on 133.95. We started our left turn and were then given an 8000' level off and told we were on the wrong departure. We checked the PDC again and saw our error. We asked ATC where they wanted us to tie back in. They gave us a heading and clearance to MLF. The rest of the flight was as briefed.
We were preparing for our flight from LAS. We had extra ground time as we were early on arrival. I completed my pre-flight noting the 'non-standard route;' the TRALR2 on the Release. I set myself up for that SID. I set myself up for hearing that departure during the clearance brief and followed along during the route verification. I obviously didn't catch the -STAAV 4 MLF- just above the filed route line in the PDC. This was a change due to the changing of active runways after the Release was filed. We both missed the change line in the PDC. At this point we verified the route and waypoints in the FMC; which had the TRALR2 selected. We were now locked into the incorrect SID; not the PDC cleared route. Once you have misread the PDC cleared route and moved on to the Route page; there is no looking back/hope of correcting that error.
