ACR LGT CONFUSED BY APCH CTLR'S WHO VECTORED THEM TO THE FINAL APCH COURSE AND THEN CLEARED THEM FOR APCH TO ANOTHER RWY.

Narrative

ON INITIAL CHK IN WITH PIT APCH; WE WERE GIVEN A DSCNT CLRNC AND A VECTOR FOR THE ILS 28L. THE CURRENT ATIS 'A' AT PIT; HOWEVER; ONLY REFERENCED ILS 32 APCHS WITH CALM WIND AND CEILING 4600' BROKEN; VIS 2 MI WITH FOG. WE WERE HANDED OFF TO A SECOND CTLR WHO VECTORED US FURTHER AND FINALLY ADVISED 'TURN AT 300 DEGS; MAINTAIN 3000' UNTIL ON THE LOC; CLRED FOR THE APCH; CONTACT THE TWR NOW ON 119.1.' WITH NAV #1 TUNED TO THE ILS AND NAV #2 TUNED TO MMJ VOR FOR DIRECTION DISTANCE TO THE ARPT; WE WERE AWARE THAT THIS CTLR HAD VECTORED US THROUGH (S) OF THE LOC FOR RWY 28L; BUT HIS LAST VECTOR OF A RIGHT TURN TO 300 DEGS APPEARED TO BE A PROPER REINTERCEPT HDG FOR THE ILS 28L. ON CHK IN WITH THE TWR; MY F/O STATED THAT WE WERE 6 1/2 MI OUT FOR RWY 28L. THE TWR CTLR EXCLAIMED THAT THERE MUST HAVE A FOUL UP AND STATED WE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE FLYING THE RWY 32 ILS AND CLRED US TO LAND RWY 32. WE WERE IFR AT THE TIME. WE RETURNED THE NAV RADIOS AND LANDED UNEVENTFULLY RWY 32. UPON CALLING THE TWR BY PHONE LATER AND TALKING TO THE SUPVR; HE DENIED ANY KNOWLEDGE OF A FOUL UP BUT SAID HE WOULD REVIEW THE TAPES.
