2011-04 · NASA ASRS report 944040
Over the duration of the flight all eight Flight Attendants aboard a B767-300ER complained of light headedness and dizziness. An emergency declaration expedited their arrival at their destination.
From level off at FL350; 4 flight attendants complained of light-headedness and dizziness. The cabin was at 5;000 throughout the flight and we elected to turn off the recirc fans for an increase in 'fresh air'. The Captain advised them to take a seat and rest for a while and let us know if they got worse or needed us to divert. We contacted Dispatch and kept them apprised. At about 2 hours we now had 6 flight attendants with this issue. Again the Captain asked if they were OK to work; or should we divert. They advised that they were OK to continue. By the time we had to hold for weather just outside our destination; all 8 of the flight attendants felt sick. After a few turns in the hold; the Captain received a call that 3 flight attendants were on supplemental O2 and others were feeling worse. Rather than hold for an EFC of 30 minutes; the Captain declared a medical emergency and we were immediately given a vector for the runway. At no time did the Captain or I feel anything unusual as well as no complaints from any of the 200 plus passengers. As per our request; medical met the flight attendants at the gate.
Upon entering the holding fix in our destinations terminal area; I received a call advising me that some of the flight attendants are getting worse. So I gave them the prepare for landing PA and inquired if their illness warrants declaring an emergency for a priority landing. They said yes. So I declared a medical emergency with Approach. I had requested medical and Flight Attendant Manager to meet the flight from Operations. We got to the gate in few minutes. Our Flight Attendants were met by the paramedics. They appeared to be well taken care of. Their Manager took charge of them. All our indications were normal. As a precaution I used 100% oxygen continuously for a while than intermittently the remaining of the flight.
