CLOSE PROX ACR-COMMUTER GA-SMT IN SDF ARSA.
DSNDING FOR LNDG AT STANDIFORD FIELD; KY. WE WERE AT 10000' AND TOLD BY APCH CTL TO DSND TO 2500'. AT ABOUT 5 MI S OF IIU VOR; WE WERE GIVEN TFC AT 11 O'CLOCK AND 5 MI; SEBND AT 3000' AND TURN RIGHT TO 030 DEGS WHICH I ACKNOWLEDGED. SHORTLY AFTER TURNING TO 030 DEGS AND AS WE WERE APCHING 3000' I SAW THE SMT TFC AT 11 O'CLOCK ON A COLLISION COURSE AT PULLED BACK ON THE YOKE TAKING THE ACFT MOMENTARILY FROM THE COPLT WHO WAS FLYING AT THE TIME. I WOULD ESTIMATE THE SMT PASSED UNDER US AT LESS THAN 50'. I SPOKE TO THE SUPVR OF THIS FAC AND HE INFORMED ME THAT AFTER REVIEWING THE TAPE; HE WAS PROCESSING THIS AS A SYS ERROR. EVEN THOUGH THIS MAY BE CLASSIFIED AS A SYS ERROR SINCE THE SMT WAS IN THE ARSA AND TALKING TO APCH CTL; I FEEL I COULD HAVE AVOIDED THIS SITUATION BY REDUCING OR INCREASING OUR RATE OF DSCNT. I NORMALLY MAINTAIN MORE POSITIONAL AWARENESS OF SURROUNDING TFC IN KNOWN AREAS. THE ONLY EXCUSE I CAN OFFER IS FATIGUE. WE HAD JUST FINISHED A 16 HR DUTY DAY FOLLOWED BY REDUCED REST OF 8 HR WHICH DOES NOT INCLUDE TRANSPORTATION. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 94984: I DID NOT HEAR THE TFC RPT. THE CTLR COULD HAVE HELD US AT 4000'. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN LISTENING CLOSER AND I WOULD HAVE LEVELED AT 4000' MYSELF. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN LOOKING OUTSIDE MORE.
