Synopsis

GA SMA FORCED LNDG ACCOUNT ENGINE FAILURE. STRUCK DRAINAGE DITCH ON ROLL OUT CAUSING NOSE GEAR COLLAPSE AND BENT PROPELLER.

Narrative

WHILE ENRTE AT 4500'; THE ENG SUDDENLY STOPPED. WE MADE AN UNEVENTFUL FORCED LNDG IN A LOW PASTURE APPROX 5 MI TO THE SE OF THE VENICE ARPT. AS WE TOUCHED DOWN; WE SLID THROUGH A BARBED WIRE FENCE AND SLID TO A STOP. IN THE VERY END WE HIT A VERY SMALL DITCH WHICH COLLAPSED THE NOSE GEAR AND BENT THE PROP. NEITHER PF NOR I WERE HURT. WE BOTH WERE WEARING SEATBELTS AND SHOULDER HARNESSES AND LITERALLY DID NOT GET A SCRATCH ON US. WHEN THE sheriff'S DEPT CAME; WE GAVE THEM ALL THE INFO THEY ASKED FOR. THE REASON I AM FILING THE RPTS IS BECAUSE I FLY PROFESSIONALLY FOR AIRLINES AND DON'T WANT TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FORCED LNDG. PF IS A LICENSED PVT PLT; IT'S HIS ACFT; AND HE WAS ACTING AS PIC. EVEN THOUGH I HAVE A LOT MORE RATINGS AND EXPERIENCE THAT HE DOES; HE WAS ACTING AS PIC AND WAS FLYING THE ACFT AT ALL TIMES. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: ENG STOPPED BECAUSE OF TRASH IN FUEL SYS THAT GOT IN LINE AND COMPLETELY BLOCKED FUEL INJECTOR. FAA HAS CLASSIFIED EVEN AS INCIDENT. NEW PROP PUT ON ACFT; BUT WOULD NOT DEVELOP PWR; SO ENG NOW BEING REBUILT AND ACFT REPAIRED. PF IS PVT PLT WITH ABOUT 50 HRS TOTAL.
