Synopsis

A CRJ200 departed on the SLC WEVIC TWO RNAV with a PDC clearance of WEVIC CDC transition but CDC was not a FMS transition option; so the crew flew WEVIC MLF CDC and was notified that routing was incorrect.

Narrative

On the WEVIC SID the PDC said WEVIC2-CDC; which isn't actually a transition; so both the Captain and I misread this to mean that we should do the WEVIC to WEVIC and then go as filed to MLF and then CDC. But in fact we should have followed the departure all the way to CDC. Both of us misread this and failed to check the WEVIC chart against the FMS. ATC cleared us in the climb to FFU; but since it wasn't on the departure we asked and they said they thought we were a different aircraft type; but to go ahead and go as previously cleared. The next Controller then told us we were not following the SID correctly. He recleared us to CDC and the flight continued normally. The event occurred because both the Captain and I misread the PDC. It wasn't clear since WEVIC-CDC isn't a transition in the FMS. We should have put in the CDC transition to get the correct fixes; but there really isn't any documentation that says that. Next time I will be more careful in matching waypoints on the chart with the FMS.

Frequently asked questions

How do I search flights by aircraft type on FlightFinder?

Pick an aircraft model — Boeing 737, Airbus A320, A380, Boeing 787 Dreamliner and more — enter your origin airport, and FlightFinder shows every route that plane flies from there with live fares.

Which aircraft types can I filter by?

We support Boeing 737/747/757/767/777/787, the full Airbus A220/A319/A320/A321/A330/A340/A350/A380 family, Embraer E170/E175/E190/E195, Bombardier CRJ and Dash 8, and the ATR 42/72 turboprops.

Is FlightFinder free to use?

Search and schedules are free. Pro ($4.99/month, $39/year, or $99 one-time lifetime) unlocks the enriched flight card — on-time stats, CO₂ per passenger, amenities, live gate & weather — plus My Trips with push alerts.

Where does the route data come from?

Live schedules come from Amadeus, AeroDataBox and Travelpayouts. Observed routes (which aircraft actually flew a given city pair) are crowdsourced from adsb.lol ADS-B data under the Open Database License.
