Synopsis

NON COMPLIANCE SID ALT RESTRICTION.

Narrative

FLEW INTO MDW THE DAY BEFORE. RECEIVED DEP CLRNC RADAR VECTORS POLO THEN AS FILED MDW 3 DEP; MAINTAIN 3000' EXPECT 6000' IN 10 MINS. COMPLIED WITH CLRNC; NO PROB. FLEW BACK TO MDW 12/THURS/88. RECEIVED DEP CLRNC; RADAR VECTORS IOWA CITY; THEN AS FILED MDW 3 DEP; MAINTAIN 6000'. WE WERE GIVEN HDG 260 DEGS BY TWR ON TKOF. WE WERE HANDED OFF TO DEP AND RPTED CLBING THROUGH 1400'. I ASKED COPLT IF WE WERE STILL CLRED TO 6000' AND HE AFFIRMED. PASSING 4300' DEP ASKED OUR ALT. COPLT REPLIED AND CTLR SAID TO DSND AND MAINTAIN 4000' AND THAT WE WERE TOLD TO ORIGINALLY BE AT 3000'. COPLT STUDIED SID. HE THOUGHT THAT THE CLRNC TO 6000' FROM CLRNC DELIVERY OVERRULED THE SID ALT OF 3000'. THIS INCIDENT IS MY FAULT FOR NOT STUDYING THE SID MYSELF. SINCE IT WAS VFR AND WE WERE IN A HURRY; I LET AN INEXPERIENCED COPLT HANDLE PART OF MY RESPONSIBILITY. I ALSO DON'T GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO USE MANY SID'S AND I HONESTLY DON'T REMEMBER EVER RECEIVING ONE W/O BOTH THE EXPECTED AND INITIAL ALT. I AM ALSO NEW TO THE 2 PLT CONCEPT AND WE STILL ARE NOT WORKING AS A TEAM. FROM NOW ON I WILL TAKE THE TIME TO STUDY THE SID AND UNDERSTAND IT THOROUGHLY.
