NTSB Safety Recommendation — Aviation

Recommendation text

TO THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION: Require the replacement of aileron surface position sensors installed in accordance with Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) No. ST01310NY with more reliable aileron surface position sensors within 1 year or at the next heavy maintenance check, whichever comes first, after the issuance of an approved STC. Until reliable aileron surface position sensors have been installed, require flight data recorder functional checks every 6 months and replacement of faulty sensors, as necessary.

In plain language (FlightFinder summary)

The Federal Aviation Administration is asked to mandate the replacement of aileron surface position sensors installed under Supplemental Type Certificate ST01310NY with more reliable versions within one year or at the next heavy maintenance check, once an approved STC is available. Until that replacement, the FAA must also require flight data recorder functional checks every six months and replacement of any faulty sensors.

This plain-language summary is written by FlightFinder to explain the recommendation above. It is not the official wording — the verbatim NTSB text is quoted above.
