NTSB Safety Recommendation — Aviation

Recommendation text

TO THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION: Revise the guidance material in Advisory Circular (AC) 120-85, “Air Cargo Operations,” chapter 201(a)(4), to specify that an operator should seek Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-approved data for any planned method for restraining a special cargo load for which approved procedures do not already exist, and remove the language in the AC that states that procedures other than those based on FAA-approved data can be used.

In plain language (FlightFinder summary)

The FAA is asked to update Advisory Circular 120-85, chapter 201(a)(4), to require operators to obtain FAA-approved data for restraining special cargo loads when no approved procedures exist, and to remove language that allows procedures not based on FAA-approved data.

This plain-language summary is written by FlightFinder to explain the recommendation above. It is not the official wording — the verbatim NTSB text is quoted above.
