NTSB Safety Recommendation — Aviation
Recommendation text
TO THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION: Incorporate automation technology that captures data elements from air traffic controllers’ displays, including aircraft type, time, location, and altitude, to automatically populate these data into a pilot weather report (PIREP)-collection and -dissemination tool that will enable controllers to enter the remaining PIREP elements and disseminate PIREPs through a common exchange model directly to the National Airspace System.
In plain language (FlightFinder summary)
The Federal Aviation Administration is asked to implement automation technology that extracts data such as aircraft type, time, location, and altitude from air traffic controllers' displays. This data would automatically fill into a tool for collecting and sharing pilot weather reports (PIREPs), allowing controllers to add the remaining details and distribute the reports across the National Airspace System using a common exchange model.
This plain-language summary is written by FlightFinder to explain the recommendation above. It is not the official wording — the verbatim NTSB text is quoted above.
