NTSB Safety Recommendation — Aviation
Recommendation text
TO THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION: Work with air carriers conducting operations under Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 121 to (1) assess all charted visual approaches with a required backup frequency to determine the flight management system autotuning capability within an air carrier’s fleet, (2) identify those approaches that require an unusual or abnormal manual frequency input, and (3) either develop an autotune solution or ensure that the manual tune entry has sufficient salience on approach charts.
In plain language (FlightFinder summary)
The Federal Aviation Administration is asked to collaborate with air carriers operating under Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 121. Together, they should assess all charted visual approaches that have a required backup frequency for flight management system autotuning capability across the carriers' fleets. Additionally, they must identify approaches requiring unusual or abnormal manual frequency input, and then develop an autotune solution or enhance the salience of manual tune entries on approach charts.
This plain-language summary is written by FlightFinder to explain the recommendation above. It is not the official wording — the verbatim NTSB text is quoted above.
