NTSB Safety Recommendation — Aviation
Recommendation text
TO THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION: Require air traffic controllers to • advise pilots, through direct communication and automatic terminal information system broadcasts, when visual contact with aircraft operating on taxiways and runways cannot be established or maintained and • instruct pilots to provide accurate position reports to aid the controller in determining an aircraft’s location in such conditions.
In plain language (FlightFinder summary)
The Federal Aviation Administration is directed to mandate that air traffic controllers notify pilots—through direct communication and automated terminal information system broadcasts—when they lose or cannot establish visual contact with aircraft on taxiways and runways, and to instruct pilots to give precise position reports to help controllers determine the aircraft's location in those situations.
This plain-language summary is written by FlightFinder to explain the recommendation above. It is not the official wording — the verbatim NTSB text is quoted above.
