THE NTSB RECOMMENDS THAT THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION: (1) AMEND PARTS 121 AND 135 OF THE FEDERAL AVIATION REGULATIONS TO PROHIBIT PENETRATION OF THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY OCCURRING IN AN AREA FOR WHICH TORNADOES AND/OR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS HAVE BEEN FORECAST, AND (2) REQUIRE THAT, AS AN INTERIM MEASURE UNTIL STANDARDS HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED, THESE STORMS BE AVOIDED BY AT LEAST 20 NAUTICAL MILES.
