NTSB Safety Recommendation — Aviation
Recommendation text
STANDARDIZE WORD AND PHRASE CONTRACTIONS CONTAINED IN FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION PUBLICATIONS, OR IN INTERAGENCY PUBLICATIONS APPROVED BY THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION, TO ASSURE THAT THERE ARE NO AUTHORIZED ABBREVIATIONS WITH DUAL MEANINGS, OR DIFFERENT ABBREVIATIONS WITH THE SAME MEANINGS, USED FOR AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL, COMMUNICATIONS, OR ASSOCIATED SERVICES. (CLASS III LONGER-TERM FOLLOWUP.)
In plain language (FlightFinder summary)
The Federal Aviation Administration is asked to standardize the word and phrase contractions in its publications, as well as in interagency publications it approves, to prevent any authorized abbreviation from having multiple meanings or different abbreviations from sharing the same meaning, specifically for air traffic control, communications, and associated services.
This plain-language summary is written by FlightFinder to explain the recommendation above. It is not the official wording — the verbatim NTSB text is quoted above.
