THE NTSB RECOMMENDS THAT THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION: AMEND 14 CFR 43, APPENDIX D, TO INCLUDE A SEPARATE, SPECIFIC LINE ITEM IN EITHER THE ANNUAL OR 100-HOUR MAINTENANCE INSPECTION, OR BOTH, TO REQUIRE A VISUAL CHECK OF THE ELT SYSTEM, INCLUDING THE ELT, BATTERY, ANTENNA OR ANTENNAE, COCKPIT CONTROL AND WARNING LIGHT FOR INDICATIONS OF PROBLEMS, INCLUDING CORROSION AND IMPROPER CONNECTIONS AND AN OPERATIONAL CHECK OF THE SYSTEM.
