THE NTSB RECOMMENDS THAT THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION: ISSUE AN AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE TO REQUIRE THAT THE FLANGE AREA ON ALL P/N VAC 6000K-26 ELEVATOR HORN ASSEMBLIES INSTALLED ON VARGA AIRCRAFT BE VISUALLY INSPECTED BEFORE EACH FLIGHT FOR CRACKING IN THE UPPER AFT CORNERS OF THE CHANNEL BENDS AND IN THE MOUNTING FLANGE RADIUS AREAS. HORN ASSEMBLIES FOUND CRACKED SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM SERVICE. (URGENT)
In plain language (FlightFinder summary)
The NTSB asks the FAA to issue an airworthiness directive requiring a visual inspection before each flight of the flange area on all part number VAC 6000K-26 elevator horn assemblies installed on Varga Aircraft, checking for cracks in the upper aft corners of the channel bends and the mounting flange radius areas. Any horn assemblies found cracked must be removed from service.
This plain-language summary is written by FlightFinder to explain the recommendation above. It is not the official wording — the verbatim NTSB text is quoted above.
