NTSB Safety Recommendation — Aviation
Recommendation text
BECAUSE OPERATORS OF THE LAMA 315B AND ALOUETTE 316B/C AND 319 HELICOPTERS COULD INADVERTENTLY INTERCHANGE THE AFT SUPPORT FRAMES, A SAFETY HAZARD EXISTS THAT SHOULD BE ELIMINATED. THEREFORE, THE NTSB RECOMMENDS THAT THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION: ISSUE A TELERT MAINTENANCE BULLETIN TO NOTIFY OPERATORS AND INSPECTION PERSONNEL OF THE POSSIBILITY OF INTERCHANGING AFT ENGINE SUPPORT FRAMES OF THE LAMA 315B AND ALOUETTE 316B/C AND 319 HELICOPTERS AND TO RECOMMEND A DIMENSIONAL CHECK OF THE FRAME PRIOR TO INSTALLATION EVEN THOUGH THE PART NUMBER MAY BE LEGIBLE.
In plain language (FlightFinder summary)
The FAA is asked to issue a telerit maintenance bulletin alerting operators and inspection personnel to the risk of interchanging aft engine support frames on the Lama 315B and Alouette 316B/C and 319 helicopters, and to recommend a dimensional check of the frame before installation, even if the part number appears legible. This action is needed because such interchanging could create a safety hazard.
This plain-language summary is written by FlightFinder to explain the recommendation above. It is not the official wording — the verbatim NTSB text is quoted above.
