NTSB Safety Recommendation — Aviation
Recommendation text
BECAUSE OPERATORS OF THE LAMA 315B AND ALOUETTE 316B/C AND 319 HELICOPTERS COULD INADVERTENTLY INTERCHANGE THE AFT SUPPORT FRAMES, A SAFETY HAZARD EXISTS THAT SHOULD BE ELIMINATED. THEREFORE, THE NTSB RECOMMENDS THAT THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION: REQUIRE THE MANU FACTURER TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT A PERMANENT METHOD OF AFFIXING PART NUMBERS TO THE AFT ENGINE SUPPORT FRAMES ON THE LAMA 315B AND ALOUETTE 316B/C AND 319 HELICOPTERS.
In plain language (FlightFinder summary)
The Federal Aviation Administration is asked to require the manufacturer to create and put in place a permanent way to attach part numbers to the aft engine support frames on the Lama 315B and Alouette 316B/C and 319 helicopters. This is because operators might accidentally swap these frames, which poses a safety risk.
This plain-language summary is written by FlightFinder to explain the recommendation above. It is not the official wording — the verbatim NTSB text is quoted above.
